The overall purpose of any precast barrier wall is to shield work zones and redirect errant vehicles. However common precast jersey barriers are not always the most suitable choice for urban areas where speed limits are low and visibility requirements are high.
Florida’s low-profile portable concrete barrier (LPB) wall solves these main issues by reducing the overall height to just 18″. Combined with its shorter length and limited weight for quick manipulation, it is a viable option within areas of blended vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
As is common with most new barrier, curb or wall designs, consideration how it will be moved from place to place is often overlooked. The task of designing a lifter specific to this low profile wall was brought to Kenco from a supervisor in Florida who already had success with the standard KL9000 Barrier Lift. They provided the wall specs and Kenco’s engineering team went to work right away.
The resulting design was the Florida Low Profile Lift. It looks similar to the KL9000, however it’s center link assembly is adjusted to offset the lifter from the top of the wall. This change allows for the legs to grip the sides of the wall in the most ideal location. Its grip range is also modified from a 6″-12″ to 12″-18″. Each of these design changes was carefully evaluated before implementation. This new lifter went to work immediately and has since become a standard KL model.
