What is the DAILY proper maintenance of my Kenco Barrier Lift?

In order to catch any issue quickly, we recommend doing a quick check on your lifter at the start of each work day it will be used. Perform the following:

  1. Visually inspect Kenco Barrier Lift for signs of stress and wear.
  2. Check that bolts and nuts are snug.
  3. Ensure free movement of all components.
  4. Ensure that all warning labels are present and readable. (New sticker kits are available for purchase – sales@kenco.com)
  5. Check that the actuator mounting screws are snug and seated. *top two bolts found on the mounting plate above the actuator
  6. Lubricate all moving mechanisms with penetrating oil. DO NOT USE GREASE.
  7. Lubricate actuator with penetrating oil (ex. WD-40). NEVER use anything other than a light penetrating oil on the actuator. Grease will cause the actuator to gum up and will cause it to not operate properly. Grease also attracts ducts and particles which causes the actuator to not move smoothly.

Pads (also at start of the work day)

  1. Check that all pad mounting bolts and nuts are tight.
  2. Verify freedom of rotations for the pad angles.
  3. Ensure that the pad material is sound, and not de-laminated from backing plates.
  4. Ensure that pad mounting bolt heads are a minimum of 3/32″ below the surface of the pad. *see below
  5. Ensure pad surfaces are clean and free of any foreign substance or material.

How do I tell if I need new pads for my lifter?

Replace pads if:

  1. Surface of any given mounting bolt is not at least 3/32″ below the surface of the pad.
  2. There is any de-lamination of the pad from the backing plate.
  3. There is any scarring, chunking, or missing pad material constituting a total combined loss of surface area greater than 3 square inches per pad.
  4. There is any single scar, chunk, or missing pad material that is greater than 1 square inch per pad.

Why is my lifter slipping?

The following are a few items to check:

  1. Is the object you are trying to lift within the lifter’s range? If not, contact our sales team to discuss.
  2. Check pad wear. If the pads’ surfaces are in poor condition, slipping may occur. Refer to your manual or this FAQ section for details on checking pad wear.
  3. Is there debris between pads and object? This can be oils, dirt, paint or likewise.
  4. Is the lifter positioned over the center of gravity of the object? Having a large offset creates an unsafe lifting situation and can cause damage to the lifter.

Why will my lifter not release to grab load or not stay latched open to come off of load?

If the arrowhead in the actuator is not aligned with the receiver block or is bent, the actuator is damaged due to misuse. Navigate to the Parts page to determine which size actuator you require. Or purchase a new one through our online store.

Are Kenco Lifting Attachments certified?

Absolutely! Each lifting device is hand tested by our engineering staff before it leaves our facility. A proof certification will also accompany your new lifter when it ships.

Can I request a specific color?

Although uncommon, you can request a different color for your Kenco Lifting Attachment. Please discuss this with our sales team upon ordering for options and pricing.

Which Barrier Lifter do I need?

Although most states have a standard size wall, you cannot guarantee that every project will use it. That being said, you’ll need to locate the spec sheet or get a visual of the wall that will be used. The measurements you will need are the length of the wall, the width of the top of the wall and the weight of the wall.

Crosscheck these measurements with the following:

KL9K6t12V4 – 0′ to 16′ length wall | 6″ to 12″ top width | 0 to 9,000 lbs

KL12K6t12V4 – 16′ to 20′ length wall | 6″ to 12″ top width | 0 to 12,000 lbs (Note: The KL120000 lifter will pick up anything the KL9000 can, plus a bit more.)

KL16K6t12V4 – 20′ to 30′ length wall | 6″ to 12″ top width | 0 to 16,000 lbs (Note: The KL160000 lifter will pick up anything the KL12000 can, plus a bit more.)
